Approach the spot - Put yourself in the right place to get the upper hand.
Understand feeding behavior - What, when, where, and how fish eat.
Present the fly - The best techniques to imitate natural food sources.
Fight the fish - Proper rod and line handling to bring more fish to the net.

Gear Recommendations for all fishing trips Spring and Summer
1. Always bring water so you will stay hydrated.
2. We have mosquito's and black flies in NJ so bug repellant is a good idea.
3. Sun block, polarized glasses and a hat will help keep you from getting sunburn. A hat and polarized sunglasses will not only help cut the glare (and allow you to see fish) but will protect your eyes from errant hooks.
4. Studded Vibram soled wading boots and a wading staff will help keep you vertical and safe in tougher wading conditions. A change of clothes and towel in the truck is a great idea for those days when you take an unplanned swim.
5. Headlamp and a backup light will help you change flies in low light conditions and get you back to the truck after the evening rise ends.
Gear Recommendations for all fishing trips winter and fall
1. Always bring water so you will stay hydrated.
2. Dress properly in multiple layers. For the winter game start off with a good base layer that will wick away sweat. Fleece or wool is great for the second layer. A third water and wind proof light shell or wading jacket will top it all off to keep you dry and warm. For your feet wear socks with merino wool to keep them warm and dry. Wool fingerless gloves will keep your hands warm and allow you to still handle the line. Don't forget your hat!
3. Studded Vibram soled wading boots and a wading staff will help keep you vertical and safe in tougher wading conditions. A change of clothes, towel and blanket in the truck is a may stop the hypothermia on those days when you take an unplanned swim.
4. Polarized sunglasses will not only help cut the glare (and allow you to see fish) but will protect your eyes from errant hooks.
5. When it is super cold out fish with a friend and stay close to the truck. Safety first...
