Fly Tying Video-Jeff Blood and the Blood Dot
This week Jeff Blood ties up the Blood Dot. This is hands down, the best egg pattern out there. This is a great fly in the fall and spring when eggs are in the drift and a readily available food source. These are also highly productive candy flies or attractor patterns in your nymph rigs.
There are a few elements built in to the design of this fly that make it work. The first is translucency. Get the fly wet and watch the way light passes through it. They glow just like a real egg does. The second element that makes this fly work is the way it absorbs water. These immediately soak up the water and want to sink which gives them a more natural drift than a densely tied glo bug.
